A:To qualify for an internet merchant account, you must have a checking account with a U.S. bank. If you do not have a U.S. checking account, many acquiring institutions can assist you. • First Data Systems (Nashville &South Platform)
  • Electronic Data Systems (EDS)
  • Paymentech
  • Global Payments -- East
  • Nova Information Systems

Q: How does PayFlow conduct transaction processing?
A: PayFlow uses what is known as client/server architecture to perform transaction processing. The client is installed on a merchant's site and integrated with the merchant's storefront or ordering application.

For transaction authorization, PayFlow client software establishes a secure link with the PayFlow processing server and transmits the encrypted transaction request. The PayFlow server receives the request and transmits it over a private network to the appropriate financial processing network. When the authorization response is received from the financial network, the response is returned via the same session to the PayFlow client. The client completes the transaction session by sending a transaction receipt acknowledgment to the server.

Q: Does PayFlow itself authorize transactions?
A: PayFlow relies on American Express, banks, and financial payment processors to authorize transactions. The PayFlow system does not in any way influence the approval or denial of a transaction.

Q: Will I have to store credit card information on my web server when using PayFlow services?
A: PayFlow stores all transaction information from your web store and protects that data with the highest level of security. You never have to worry about the threat of compromising your customers' sensitive credit card data.

Q: Can I still use Payflow to process phone or fax orders?
A:You can still process these orders manually using the Payflow Virtual Terminal. However, we recommend that you encourage your customers to take advantage of the automated capabilities of PayFlow services.

Q:Do my PayFlow fees include the bank fees?
A: The services provided to you by PayFlow are separate from fees charged by the acquiring bank. A PayFlow reseller will include PayFlow service fees with the reseller's fees.

Q: How often will you settle my account with my acquiring bank?
A: All transactions processed by PayFlow are closed and settled with American Express and your acquirer at least once a day. The time it takes for the funds to appear in your account depends on your arrangement with American Express and your bank card merchant acquirer.
